Yay! Finally, I have found the time to add a few recent client sites to my portfolio. I know, “about time” I hear you say! Must be late December 2011 since I last updated it?

To be quite honest, the last 4 months have been extremely busy, with a barrage of new clients and agency work, and a huge influx of repeat business from a handful of existing clients. Being a freelance web designer, this is great news on the pocket! It does, however, mean my personal projects (and my portfolio site) have had to take a backseat for a while, whilst I play catch up. continue reading

RootHost are proud to announce their latest web design client, Ringmer based graphic designer, Corina and Co who specialises in pop-up books and paper engineering. Corina has almost 20 years of experience in paper engineering, and during that time has worked with some of the most well known names in children’s books, including Lauren Child, Nick Sharratt and Neal Layton

I met Corina a few weeks ago to discuss this project and was immediately excited about the prospect of working with her on this design. It made a refreshing change to meet somebody who has a clear vision of how they wish the site the look, and an understanding of the industry. continue reading

Spec work (short for speculative) is any job for which the client expects to see examples or a finished product before agreeing to pay a fee.

This type of work is widely considered undesirable and immoral by the web design and graphic design community, as it requires the designer, or developer, to commit time and resources to a project with the chance of getting nothing in return. While a client may feel they don’t want to invest money until seeing some work, designers should not have to prove their worth to get a job. Instead, clients should choose a designer based on their portfolio and experience and commit to building a working relationship with him or her. Only then will both the client and designer see the best results. continue reading
