Every website is different...
Which is why it is virtually impossible to give a standard website design price. Client’s requirements vary considerably from project to project, but there are almost always three similarities: Ease of use, value for money and highest standard design work. I strive to meet these demands with every website by following my simple web design process.
The design process
Web Design Process: Requirements and Obligations
Upon your initial contact, I will review the web design project with you and clarify what is required from both parties, for example how content will be provided, by when and in what format and who the main contacts will be.
Sometimes a face-to-face meeting is scheduled where I will spend time listening to you and learning about your product or business. I will ask you plenty of questions so that I can get a greater understanding of your company, business goals and marketing strategy. Who your users are and what they need to get done, what should users type into Google to find you, I clarify this with keyword research.
I identify brand principles, company style of communication, brand colors, logo, language etc.
Web Design Process: The Look and Feel
From my findings and research I will produce a possible design concept and/or wireframe for you to review. This graphical mockup stage gives you the opportunity to provide me with feedback and suggest any changes before I actually start on the development and coding of the website. It's much easier to change a few PhotoShop layouts than it is HTML files.
Once the initial designs have been approved by yourself, details are allowed to change, but the overall look will remain consistent throughout.
Web Design Process: Creating the Websites Functions
The approved flat designs are next developed into web pages, which you are able to view in a test area over the internet. At this stage, you can view the layout, navigation elements etc and see exactly how they work on the internet.
It is at this stage where I begin to add the site content (with on-page SEO, correct keyword density and anchor text) setup databases and the CMS (if needed), programming languages, graphics, create web forms and add any calls to action.
Adding analytics code for your web stats and finishing touches like favicons and email boxes are also done at this stage.
Web Design Process: Usability and Final Checks
Once the design and coding of the website is complete I will go through the site with a fine toothcomb checking all spelling, grammar, and layout, as well as checking the validity of all the functions. Any errors found are directly rectified at this point. I may enlist a handful of 'testers' on larger projects and will almost always ask you to test the site as well. Afterall, it is your site.
Once I am happy that the site is error free I double check that it displays correctly across a range of popular web browsers. Currently I test my sites in Internet Explorer 9+, Firefox 5+ and the latest versions of Chrome, Opera & Safari.
Web Design Process: Launching the Website
This is the final stage of the development stage. Once the websites content and any additional features have been added and signed of, it's time for people and the search engines to see your new website. I will go through your site one last time with you, we check, check and check again to make sure everything is perfect and then add the relevant title, descriptions and keywords meta tags to all pages for the search engines.
Once we are both agreed that the site is fine to go live, I then upload to the final web server.
